BIO
City Of Orchestras is a music collective established in 2012 structured around songwriter and founder Dylan Alexander Freeman. Joining Freeman in the project are a host of rotating regular instrumentalists, improvisers, and vocalists. To start off 2022, Freeman & his group have released their self-titled third studio LP. It was recorded at various recording studios and home studios across Los Angeles, also incorporating field recordings from around the city.
The band’s distinctive sound comes from a synthesis of improvised experimentation and composed, structured songs. Morphing a number of dark themes, the band’s unconventional instrumentation blends modern sounds (guitar, bass, drum kit, synth, piano) interwoven with orchestral improvisations (viola, upright bass, clarinet, French horn). This innovative approach has earned them the intriguing genre descriptor “Chamber-Emo.”
Freeman has had notable achievements in the music world, including scoring a recent episode of Black Market with Michael K. Williams for VICE and having had a track featured on the official soundtrack for the movie Silver Linings Playbook. He has played with headliners for sold out shows around Los Angeles, as well as shared bills with acts Blu DeTiger, Lawrence, Arms Akimbo, Pearl Charles, and others.
City of Orchestras is currently gearing up for an hour-long live recording session/film shoot in late February. After the recording and release of this video, the group will resume performances around the Los Angeles area, as well as extending its reach throughout Southern California, with a follow-up tour in the works.
